Leading providers in long-term stays

Wellington has been coined 'the coolest little capital in the world' offering amazing outdoor adventures, rich cultural experiences and warm hospitality. We've selected a handful of our favourite things that we think you might enjoy while on your stay.

  1. The Botanic Gardens span 25 hectares showcasing both New Zealand native bush through to rose gardens—walk up through the Gardens from Thorndon or jump on the historic Cable Car from Lambton Quay.
  2. For an educational adventure of New Zealand's history, check out our national museum Te Papa. General admission is free.
  3. Matiu / Somes Island has a rich history and is now a stronghold for rare and endangered wildlife. Take a ferry and enjoy a tranquil day trip.
  4. On a beautiful Wellington day, it's hard to beat a stroll along the Waterfront, see the sculptures, stop by Te Papa and head to the local's summer hot spot Oriental Bay for sunbathing, swimming, beach volleyball and children's play area. On Sundays, there are the popular markets, with a selection of food stalls and local crafts to enjoy.
  5. City Gallery Wellington, in Civic Square, is the capital's contemporary public art gallery. The revolving exhibition and events programme features leading local and international artists.
  6. Zealandia: The Karori Sanctuary is a huge eco-sanctuary and home to New Zealand's rarest birds, reptiles and insects.
  7. Restaurants: Wellington is home to some of the country's best dining establishments:
Boulcott Street Bistro has been buttering up customers for over 25 years.
Monsoon Poon a hero of Southeast Asian cuisine and cheeky cocktails.
Annam showcase of dishes inspired by the cuisine of Vietnam with French flair.
Burger Liquor Wellington's first burger bar offering cool, casual dining.
